Our Excursion to Canterbury – 2024
Welcome to Canterbury
On our first day we travelled from Ludwigshafen to Canterbury via Calais and Dover including a stop at a Belgian beach and a ferry crossing.
Day 2: Exploring Dover
In Dover Castle we learned a lot about history, like the importance of the great tower or the underground war tunnels. But also the fun didn’t come short at the siege play area, which showed the actions of a war-machinery to experience by yourself.
In Dover City we explored the city in groups of 3. In the city there were a lot of things to explore like Dover beach or Dover port. One of (my) highlights were the iconic Fish and Chips which tasted really good.
Day 3: London: the highlight of the students
Day 3 started very early. After almost 2hours of travelling we arrived in Greenwich and headed to the Uber boat. Then our boat took off towards Westminster. On our way, we saw the O2 arena, the Cutty Sark, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and London Eye. It was beautiful to see.
Upon arriving we were overwhelmed. We saw Big Ben. It was amazing. We hadn’t expected the tower to look so beautiful. It was more golden than expected. After a short stop for pictures, we went on. Only a few hundred meters from the Houses of Parliament the daily life of London took place.
The teachers guided us more or less directly to Buckingham Palace and the parks around it. Then we continued to Piccadilly Circus. It was very busy. Here we could take many pictures and watch street artists.
After a bit of free time, we went to Leicester Square to spend our pocket money in the M&M or Lego store, to Trafalgar Square and then we went back to the boat via Whitehall and Downing Street.
When we asked the other students, nearly each of them considered London as their favourite day in England.
Day 4: Exploring the City of Canterbury
On our 4th day we explored Canterbury. When we arrived, we explored the city in small groups to do a city quiz. When we met again we took a guided tour through the city. It was very informative and we learned a lot. It has a beautiful old city centre and a massive church. Our highlights were the calm streets, the church and an old “ToysRus”.
After all, the trip to England was a once in a lifetime experience. We had a lot of fun and learned many new things. When we arrived in Germany, we were happy to be back home but also sad to leave all that behind us.
